Our PAP+ technology

PAP+ technology: whitening your teeth differently, without peroxide

Have you heard of teeth whitening, but stories about sensitive teeth or questionable ingredients are holding you back? At Smile Addict, we made a radical formulation choice: zero hydrogen peroxide, zero compromise on safety. Our range is built entirely around PAP+, a new-generation whitening agent approved by European cosmetic regulations.

What is PAP+?

The PAP+ is short for phthalimidoperoxycaproic acid, a synthetic oxidizing compound belonging to the peracid family. Its distinctive feature: it acts as a targeted oxidizing agent on color molecules deposited on the surface of the enamel, the chromophores, without penetrating the dentin or altering the tooth's internal structure.

How does PAP+ work on your teeth?

PAP+ works in three steps:

  • Contact: Once applied to the enamel, PAP+ comes into direct contact with the chromophore deposits present on the surface.
  • Surface oxidation: It releases active oxygen that breaks the chemical bonds of colored molecules.
  • Visible result: The enamel surface gradually regains its natural brightness.

PAP+ versus hydrogen peroxide

  • How it works: PAP+ works on the enamel surface. Peroxide diffuses all the way to the dentin.
  • Sensitivity: PAP+ is formulated to be compatible with sensitive teeth. Peroxide can cause significant sensitivity.
  • Legal framework (EU): PAP+ can be used without restriction in consumer cosmetic products. Hydrogen peroxide has been banned above 0.1% in over-the-counter sales in France since 2012.

The legal framework in France and Europe

The EC Regulation 1223/2009 governs all cosmetic products in the EU. Hydrogen peroxide above 0.1% has been banned in consumer cosmetic products in France since 2012 (Directive 2011/84/EU). PAP+, as an organic peracid, is not on the list of banned substances and may be legally used in cosmetic formulations.

Why Smile Addict chose PAP+

  • Accessibility: Teeth whitening should not be reserved for people with perfectly strong teeth.
  • Clear compliance: PAP+ clearly falls within the European legal framework for cosmetics.
  • Transparency: We prefer to explain exactly what's in our products to you.

Frequently asked questions about PAP+

Is PAP+ safe for enamel?

PAP+ works through the surface oxidation of chromophores without penetrating the tooth structure. It is not abrasive, unlike activated charcoal or concentrated bicarbonates.

Can I use PAP+ products if I have sensitive teeth?

Yes. PAP+ works on the enamel surface without reaching the dentinal tubules. If you have had recent dental treatment, wait 48 hours before any application.

How long does it take to see results?

Results are gradual. Most of our users notice a visible improvement after several days of regular use.

Are your products legal in France?

Yes, without any restrictions. Smile Addict products are cosmetics that comply with EC Regulation 1223/2009, legally sold in France and throughout the EU.
